MORE - Mia Klassen

Mia is a credentialed member of the Canadian Professional Counselling Association and holds the designation of Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling. She is also a registered Counselling Therapist with the Alberta Counselling and Therapeutic Association (ACTA).

Mia brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her counselling practice. Her work is deeply informed by lived experience and a lifelong commitment to supporting those navigating adversity. Her initial interest in the mental health field was shaped by profound grief following the loss of her sister to sex trafficking—an experience that ignited in her a deep compassion for vulnerable individuals. The shame-based environment of her early life presented substantial challenges, yet also became a catalyst for personal growth, resilience, and the pursuit of therapeutic excellence.

As she worked through her own recovery, Mia developed a passion for learning and for helping others overcome their own emotional and psychological barriers. She has lived alongside individuals struggling with serious mental illness and addiction, which further strengthened her capacity to provide clients with authentic validation and support throughout their healing journeys.
Mia frequently collaborates with her husband, Daniel, as they both specialize in identity solidification and trauma therapy. Their combined efforts allow for a holistic and deeply integrative approach, particularly for individuals coping with complex trauma and dissociation.

She holds a diploma in Life Skills and Career Development and later completed her graduate education with distinction, earning a Master’s degree in Counselling with a focus on severe trauma. Her clinical training is extensive, with specialization in ADHD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), grief, complex trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), sexual abuse, eating disorders, and other diagnosed mental health conditions.

Mia has undergone advanced training in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as tapping. These, among other integrative approaches, allow her to tailor each session to the unique needs of her clients.

Her work with individuals affected by severe trauma, childhood adversity, and dissociative disorders has helped many find meaningful relief from long-standing emotional pain. Mia’s ability to foster a safe, attuned, and nonjudgmental space often allows clients to feel genuinely heard and understood—sometimes for the first time in their lives.
